JurisTemps Responds to Growing Demand For Legal Temporaries in
St. Louis

A recent explosion in the legal temporary employment industry has prompted one Missouri lawyer to open his own shop targeted to St. Louis-area lawyers, law firms, and corporate legal departments.

Andrew Koshner opened JurisTemps on Sept. 2 in offices located in Clayton. He says that his new firm will seek to fulfill a growing need for temporary employees-especially lawyers and paralegals-in the legal community.

"Forbes Magazine says the demand for temporary lawyers grew an unbelievable 400 percent between 1993 and 1995," says Koshner. "St. Louis is one of a few remaining major markets yet to react to this growing trend. We see tremendous potential for St. Louis and surrounding areas."

Staffing Industry Report, a trade publication that tracks the temporary industry, says the legal staffing market grew to about $1.5 billion in 1996, or about 8m percent of the $18.5 billion clerical/professional market.

In addition to lawyers, JurisTemps will provide paralegals, law clerks, and legal support personnel. Koshner says the average stay in one place for a legal temporary worker is between one and six months.

JurisTemps also offers benefits and perks not often found in the temporary industry, such as work bonuses and paid vacations.

Koshner is a member of the Missouri Bar and a former professor of political science at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He received his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1982, his law degree from Washington University in 1985, and his Ph.D. in political science from Washington University in St. Louis in 1996.

He also worked on the Judiciary Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives in 1985.
